The Germans restored their lead with 20 minutes remaining as Marco Reus headed home to thwart Maukoko despite Luke Shaw’s best efforts.
United dominated thereafter, but substitute Dortmund keeper Alex Meier denied Casemiro, Joe Hugill and Rashford before Anthony fired wide from the latter’s chance.
