Indian whisky has emerged as the best whisky in the world. Indri Diwali Collectors Edition 2023 won the prestigious ‘Best in Show, Double Gold’ award at the 2023 whisky of the World Awards.
India’s domestic whisky won the award after an evaluation of over 100 whisky brands.
Indri whisky is better than bourbon, British single malt
Indian single malt has surpassed many international brands including Scotch, Bourbon, Canadian, Australian and British single malt.
Where is Indri whisky made?
Indri is produced by Piccadilly Distilleries in the state of Haryana in northern India.
The brand began its journey in 2021 with the launch of India’s first triple-barrel single malt, Indri-Trini.
Siddharth Sharma, founder of Piccadilly Distilleries, said in an official statement, “These are exciting times for India, and Indian whiskys are not far behind as we play our part in India’s story. Indri’s win at the whisky of the World Awards BIG – being recognized as the best whisky in the world further reinforces our vision of putting domestic quality spirits on the world map. It has bagged more than 14 international awards in the last two years, The Sunday Guardian reported.
What does that mean?
The accolade from the whisky of the World Awards has positioned India as an exceptional producer of single malts in the global whisky industry, reshaping the perception of domestically produced spirits.
“From subtle smokiness to a symphony of flavors, this whisky of the World 2023 has reached the pinnacle of recognition with ‘Best in Show, Double Gold’ honours,” Indri shared on Instagram.
How are Indri formed?
The whisky undergoes a significant maturation period in PX sherry casks in the subtropical climate of northern India.
It has alluring notes of smoke, dried candied fruit, roasted nuts, subtle spices, oak and bittersweet chocolate.
Indri-Trini is currently available in 19 Indian states and 17 other countries, with availability planned for the US and select European countries in November.
