Human Chain

Karnataka made history on September 15, 2024. They formed the world’s longest human chain for the International Day of Democracy. This incredible chain stretched 2,500 kilometers across all 31 districts, showing how much Karnataka cares about democratic values & participative governance.

Record-Breaking Human Chain

The chain went from Bidar in the north all the way down to Chamarajanagar in the south. Around 25 lakh people took part! That’s more than 1,000 people for each kilometer! This huge gathering broke records and set a new world mark.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah led the main event at Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru. He read out loud the preamble of the Indian Constitution. People from all backgrounds joined in, making sure everyone felt included. There were transgenders & differently-abled folks taking part too!

Environmental Initiative

They didn’t just stop at forming the chain. Participants also planted about 10 lakh saplings across Karnataka. This showed they care not only about democracy but also about taking care of our environment.

Global Recognition

A team from London came over to watch and certify this amazing event. The Karnataka government says this human chain is the “longest in the history of the world.” That sure makes it a big deal on a global level!

Promoting Democratic Values

This event really stood for equality, unity, and friendship among everyone. It aimed to make people more aware of democratic ideas & inspire them to take part in governance. Each person who joined is set to get a certificate celebrating their role in this historic moment.

Annual Tradition

This year’s event builds on last year’s celebration when they did a mass reading of the Constitution’s preamble. Keeping these big events going shows how dedicated Karnataka is to promoting democratic values.

International Day of Democracy

Since 2007, September 15 has been celebrated as the International Day of Democracy around the world. This day helps spread and protect democratic ideas everywhere. Karnataka’s creative way to celebrate it sets a new standard for public involvement and civic participation.

As everyone watches, Karnataka’s record-breaking human chain not only celebrates democracy but also shows what we can achieve together. This powerful event might inspire similar actions all over India and beyond, reminding us how important democratic values are today!
